MEDICINE HAT, AB – Everything seemed to be dropping for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams at Medicine Hat College on Saturday night, trouncing the Ambrose University Lions in a pair of games.

The Rattlers men’s team dominated the floor against the Lions in the late game, shooting 52 percent from the floor to take their second game of the weekend with a 107-71 victory.

Holding just an eight point lead at halftime, the Rattlers exploded for 31 points in the third quarter led by a combined 18 points from Jaamel Slack and Kieron Burgess.

The trio of Slack, Burgess, and DShawn Tyrell all crossed the 20 point threshold, with Tyrell leading the pack with a 24-point night.

Not only winning the rebound game over Ambrose 49-28, the Rattlers also came through with 46 of their 107 points from the paint.

Earning wins over Olds College and Ambrose University this weekend, the 8-5 Rattlers now sit in a three-way tie for second place in the ACAC South Division with the Lions and Lethbridge College Kodiaks.

On the ladies side, Medicine Hat regrouped after suffering their second defeat of the season Friday against Olds and took out the struggling Lions by a 78-52 final.

Slow out of the gate trailing Ambrose 18-15 after the opening 10 minutes, the Rattlers woke up in the second quarter with 27 points and never looked back for the rest of the night.

Rookie Rhiannon Ware only played 13 minutes on Saturday night, but she made those minutes count with a season-high 14 point effort to lead all Medicine Hat players on the evening.

Rattlers guard Kendell Kuntz meanwhile knocked down a trio of three-pointers to finish her night with 13 points, followed by nine-point efforts from both Morgan Muir and Abygail LaRochelle.

Back in the win column and moving their record to 11-2 on the year, Medicine Hat now sits four points up on Olds College for first place in the South Division with eight games to go before playoffs.

Two games line the docket for each of the Rattlers basketball clubs next weekend, with the Red Deer College Kings and Queens coming to town on Friday night starting at 6:00 pm.
