MEDICINE HAT, AB — The first Friday in November marks Random Acts of Kindness day in the city.

The day is all about doing something small and showing someone you care.

Staff from the Canadian Mental Health Association stopped by the Medicine Hat Police Service and dropped off hand warmers for the patrol members.

The Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta hosts the event every year.

Niki Gray with the foundation said it’s important that everyone work to be a little kinder every day.

“Kindness doesn’t cost a thing,” she said. “We have Chris at the office right now giving out hugs and we have the food bank drive, you can drop off a little bit of food if you can. There’s holding the door for somebody or sharing your meal with somebody or sitting with somebody else at the lunch table at school. It has nothing to do with money.”

Gray said the community always comes together for Random Acts of Kindness day and wants to see it continue throughout the rest of the year.
