MEDICINE HAT, AB. — 71 per cent of major crops in the  region covering Strathmore, Medicine Hat, Lethbridge and Foremost, have been harvested.

But the latest Alberta Crop report shows 17 per cent of crops still standing, including 21 per cent of spring wheat, 11 per cent of barley and 20 per cent of oats.

24 per cent of canola in the region remains in the field.

Under normal conditions, harvest would be complete had it not been for a wet and cold month of September.

Snow in some areas flattened crops and impacted yield potential.

Alberta Agriculture says 44 per cent of major crops remain to be harvested in areas near Oyen, Airdrie, Provost, Vermillion and Camrose.
