MEDICINE HAT, AB — The 131st annual Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede officially kicked off Wednesday afternoon.

People of all ages could be seen on the Stampede grounds Wednesday afternoon, enjoying what the fair had to offer.

“The Stampede has a great amount of people that support us,” said D’arci Lawrence, marketing and communications coordinator with the organization. “From the time the night show tickets go on sale in December, to the time our gates open and spring rodeo tickets are on sale, there’s always a lineup of people here.”

Lawrence says she enjoys the positive atmosphere among those attending the event.

“My favourite part, i would have to say, is seeing the smiling faces, and knowing that the hard work of everyone involved is going to a good cause,” she said.

CHAT News also spoke with two children at the event, who said rides were what they enjoyed the most.

Annika says her favourite ride is the Drop of Fear, because “It lets you go down super fast.”

Clark, 11, said he enjoyed the 1,001 Nachts ride because “There’s a lot of music, and it’s really fun just to go up and down on the spinning rides. It’s so fun.”

Tonight, Corb Lund and High Valley take the stage for the first night show concert beginning at 8 p.m.

The Stampede runs until Saturday.
