BASSANO, AB – RCMP have laid 28 charges against three suspects allegedly involved in rural pursuit through farmers’ fields earlier this week.

Authorities were alerted early Tuesday morning at 4:30 am at a business in Hussar after suspects stole an ATM, before responding to a call of an attempted theft from a rural property north of Bassano.

The victim had followed the suspects who fled in a vehicle, but stopped after one of the suspects leaned out the window of the vehicle and pointed a gun at the victim.

RCMP were finally able to arrest the suspects after a pursuit through the rural Bassano area led to the suspects’ vehicle being stuck in a farmer’s field.

Police charged 24-year-old Hailey Morrison of Drumheller, 33-year-old Shawn Panteluk of Gleichen, and 24-year-old Brett Voytko on Saturday.

They’re all facing charges ranging from break and enter and theft over $5,000, possession of stolen property, dangerous driving, flight from police, and weapons charges.

All three were on court conditions from previous crimes and the suspects have made their first appearance in Medicine Hat Provincial Court.

According to RCMP, the trio will re-appear in Medicine Hat Provincial Court sometime in the next few weeks.
