Monarchs drop doubleheader

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Moose Monarchs were on the wrong end of a doubleheader Tuesday night.

Hosting the Billings Royals at Athletic Park, the Monarchs were dominated 12-4 during the first game, and dropped a close 5-2 decision in the second game.

In the first game, the Royals scored nine runs in the fifth inning, putting the game out of reach.

For the Monarchs, Zach Stark led his team with two hits and one RBI. Cavan Kolody, Braydon Pudwell and Wyatt Bergen all scored one hit during the game.

Ethan Boutkan took the loss on the mound, allowing 10 hits and 11 runs in four and one third innings. Boutkan also struck out three batters.

In the second game, the teams were tied until the fifth inning, when the Royals slipped ahead. Kolody and Ashtyn Street batted in the runs for the Monarchs.

Street was also the losing pitcher for the Monarchs, allowing three runs and six hits in five innings.

The Monarchs host the Missoula Mavericks on Saturday at Jeffries Field. The first pitch is at 1 p.m.
