Sentence handed down to man arrested folowing June drug investigation

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A man arrested last summer following a drug investigation by Medicine Hat police received his sentence Wednesday afternoon.

Wrayne Wawia, who was arrested as part of an investigation into street level drug trafficking last June, was sentenced in provincial court Wednesday afternoon.

Wawia received an $800 surcharge, a six month jail sentence and 18 months probation, according to court check.

He pleaded guilty to four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in November.

Wawia was among 11 people arrested in June 2017 following a two-month investigation in Medicine Hat. Police seized more than $10,000 worth of drugs during the course of their investigation, including 75 grams of methamphetamine, two grams of heroin, and 15.5 grams of cocaine.
