Mohawks score upset at basketball provincials

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat High School Mohawks scored a major upset at 4A Basketball Provincials Thursday afternoon.

The hometown squad, who entered the tournament as the 13th seed, defeated the fourth-seeded St. Mary’s out of Calgary 76-65 at the Hat High Gymnasium.

Bailey Gosse led in scoring for the Mohawks with 24 points, while fellow teammate Parker Davidson scored 16 points.

The Mohawks advance to the next round of the tournament, where they will battle either Foothills Composite or Cardston High School. The game begins at 11 a.m.

The Medicine Hat High School Kwahommies were unlucky, however, in the at the 4A Girls Basketball provincials, losing 63-43 to Jasper Place. 

The Kwahommies return to action Friday morning at 9 a.m., taking on Chestermere at the Crescent Heights High School gym.
