Zone 1 ringette team finishes in sixth place at Alberta Winter Games

WOOD BUFFALO, AB — The Zone 1 ringette team played hard over the weekend at the 2018 Alberta Winter Games in Wood Buffalo.

The team, with all but two players calling Medicine Hat home, were defeated 8-7 in the consolation round final by Zone 5B (Black and Gold/Yellowhead), finishing in sixth place.

In round robin play, Zone 1 finished with a record of 1-2. The team was defeated 4-3 by Zone 3 (Calgary), 10-5 by Zone 6 (Edmonton), but were able to defeat Zone 4 (Parkland) 7-3.

In the consolation round, Zone 1 defeated Zone 7 (Northeast) 11-4 to advance to the final.

Zone 6 won the gold medal at the tournament, defeating Zone 2 (Big Country) 5-2 in the final.

The Alberta Winter Games Team will be playing a charity game against the Medicine Hat Police Service on Wednesday February 21 at the Moose Rec Centre. The game begins at 6:30 p.m.
