Calgary MP warns cancellation of Energy East pipeline could cause regional divide in Canada

CALGARY, AB. – A Calgary Conservative MP says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should take responsibility if there’s any regional divisions caused by TransCanada’s decision to cancel the Energy East Pipeline.

Michelle Rempel says Canadians will see through Trudeau’s claim on Facebook that his government’s opponents are “stoking national divisions” in their response to the news.

Trudeau warns that festering regional tensions bound the country in “paralyzing unity debates” from the 1970s through the 1990s.

The pipeline would have carried western crude from the Alberta oilsands to the Irving Oil refinery in Saint John, New Brunswick, as well as an export terminal.
