MEDICINE HAT, AB — A Monsignor McCoy High School student came home with a medal at badminton provincials this past weekend.

Jordyn Fournier smashed her way through the “B” category at the Alberta Schools Athletic Association Badminton Provincials in Red Deer, winning the silver medal after dropping the final to Edmonton’s Gurleen Asht.

While Fournier is the only player to go come with a medal, several other players had strong showings at the tournament.

James Nguyen from Medicine Hat High School, who took home a gold medal during south zones in Medicine Hat, finished in fourth place in the senior boys “A” category, losing to Brandon Tang.

Sierra Zukowski from Monsignor McCoy also qualified in the senior girls “A,” but lost in the quarter-finals to Abby Ledda, who finished in third place.

Two teams from Eagle Butte High School took part in mixed doubles action. Triston Duchscherer and Lexie Waldbauer went 2-1 in round robin play, but lost in the quarter-finals, while Trevor Mickey and Katie Arnott were eliminated in the “B” Playoffs.
