1932 – Bill May – 2022
William “Bill” Frederick May, beloved husband of the late Kathleen Betty May, passed away on March 8, 2022, at the age of 89 years. He is survived by his sons, Clark May of Medicine Hat, Dean (Delaine) May of Golden Prairie/Medicine Hat; grandsons, Landon (Ellen) May and Evan May; great granddaughters, Lily, Robin and Summer May. Bill was born on May, 29 1932, to Fred and Lena May, on a farm in the Burstall area. At the age of eleven he moved with his parents and sisters, Betty and Eileen, to Golden Prairie. After finishing his schooling he worked in Broome’s Store and later moved to Swift Current where he worked for a short while. In time his Dad wanted him to come home and help with the farming, which he did. Bill married Betty Cochrane in 1957, and together they lived and worked on their farm for 26 years at which time they moved to Medicine Hat to make room for Dean to begin farming. He drove out to the country weekly to help with the work and that continued for many years. He was a hardworking man who knew each field well and loved the work involved in caring for it. That love of farming remained into his final years. He had a tender place in his heart for children – his own yes, but also the children of friends and neighbors. Visits from his three great granddaughters were his greatest joy in these last years.
Farmer’s Prayer
Lord, bless the land You’ve given me,
And may I always know
As I tend each crop and creature
You’re the one who helps them grow.
Grant me strength and wisdom;
Please protect me from all harm,
And thank you for Your gracious gift –
The blessing of a farm.
A private family funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL. Interment will take place in the Hillside Cemetery.
