William “Bill” Crawford Douglas
June 18 – 1936 – May 15, 2024
William Crawford (Bill) Douglas passed away May 15, 2024, in Medicine Hat. Bill was born June 18, 1936, and raised in Dodsland, SK, the oldest of six children.
In 1957, he met his wife Myrna Schell from Broadacres, SK; they married in 1959 and lived in Dodsland where their three sons were born. He spent his early years working as a mechanic until he was hired into the oil and gas industry in 1969 with Esso Resources. He spent the rest of his working career with the company, moving from Dodsland to Carnduff, SK and then to Estevan, SK where he retired in 1991. After retirement, Bill and Myrna moved to Medicine Hat, spending their winters until recently in Yuma, AZ. They developed many very good friendships wherever they lived and have maintained them through the years.
Bill was active volunteering in the communities he lived in and was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus. After retirement, he would always be helping someone with a renovation or project and was called upon for his handyman skills many times. Bill was a dedicated husband and father, and his work ethic has been passed on through his children. Bill cherished the many friends he made and enjoyed spending time socializing with them, but his biggest joy was likely dancing.
One of Bill’s more recent joys was meeting his cousins from England in 2016. He made a very special connection and bond with the Mason family and in 2017 made the trip across the pond to visit the home of his father, spending two wonderful weeks meeting and visiting relatives he had not previously met, and staying in touch with them until his passing.
Bill will be fondly remembered by his wife of 65 years Myrna; son, Brad (Shawna) Douglas and their children, Drew Douglas and Kurt (Lacey) Douglas; son, Darin Douglas and his children, Chelsea Douglas, Jakob Douglas, Joshua Douglas, as well as their mother, Bernadine Armstrong; children of Vern(†), Dallas Douglas and Jenna Douglas; one great grandchild, Navy Douglas; sister, Gaylene (Barry) Douglas; and two brothers, James (Joan) Douglas and Randy Douglas; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents Richard and Margaret Douglas; one son, Vern Douglas; and two sisters, Shirley (Charles) Dorval and June (Delbert) Byrt.
