1938 – Tony Melo – 2022
The family of Manuel Antonio Melo is profoundly sad to announce his passing on August 10, 2022 at the age of 84. He was surrounded by those that loved him. Manuel who many knew him as Tony, was born in Furnas, Azores to parents Jose and Tereza Melo. He is survived by his loving wife Maria Odette, of 58 years as well their children and their families which includes grandchildren. When it came to his children he was hands on from infancy to grown adults offering fatherly advice which made him a wonderful example of how a father should be. In his golden years, he enjoyed spending time as a loving grandfather teaching his gift of carpentry, sharing his many, many stories of the old country and his life in the army. Shortly after immigrating to Canada he worked many carpentry jobs to support his growing family. As a result he ended up starting a thriving business working for himself. There wasn’t anything he won’t do after a hard days work to help his wife around the house. Even being blind he did what he could. Their bond of love was the foundation of true lasting love that endured the test of time. Friends were easily made with whomever he met. He had a way about him and an ability to make people laugh. Manuel had many lifelong friends, neighbours and extended family who respected his wisdom and treasured him. One fond memory out of many was when he whistled while he worked and to us who knew him, it was a sign he enjoyed what he was doing. He was a man of strong faith; he will forever be remembered and be a part of our lives. He will be sadly missed. We hope he is sitting and whistling. A private funeral mass was held at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church. Interment has taken place at Hillside Cemetery. To leave a message of condolence you may visit www.pattisonfuneralhome.com.
