Susan Frank, beloved wife of Richard Frank of 62 years, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at the age of 83 years. Besides her loving husband Richard, Susan is survived by her two daughters, Melissa (Dale) Weiss and Heidi (Curt) Pudwell; her grandchildren, Bryce Weiss, Colten Weiss (Miranda Kipta), Brett (Jenny) Pudwell, Shay (Tianna) Pudwell and Mackenzie Pudwell; her great grandchildren, Gunner Pudwell, Barrett Pudwell and Presley Pudwell; her brother-in-law, Rick Wilson and her sisters-in-law, Louise Wojaik and Joanne Hrebin. Susan was predeceased by her parents, Charlotte and Chester Williams Jr. and her sister Joan Wilson.
Susan was born April 4, 1940 to Charlotte and Chester Williams Jr. in Yonkers, New York. She graduated from Green Mountain College in Vermont and later worked as a dental assistant in Flemington, New Jersey. Susan married Richard in 1961, while Richard was serving in the United States Air Force in Duluth, Minnesota. They welcomed their daughters Melissa and Heidi while living in Sharon, Connecticut. It was here that Susan became a farm/rancher’s wife. She worked closely with Richard on numerous cattle ranches in Stratford and Peterborogh, Ontario, North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Priddis, Vauxhall and Elkwater, Alberta, Consul, Saskatchewan, Alexis Creek and Clinton, British Columbia. Wherever they lived, she made their house a welcoming home. They retired while living in Irvine, Alberta so Susan could be close to her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved hosting Christmas, their grandchildren’s birthdays and being involved in her grandchildren’s lives, leaving her family with wonderful memories. When she wasn’t busy with helping Richard or spending time with their grandchildren, she enjoyed needlework, crafting wonderful gifts, and gardening as she had a love for flowers. Susan had a soft spot for animals and there was always at least one family dog and cat in their home. She inherited a fondness for horses from her father and she was right at home when helping with the cattle.
Susan was a loving mother, grandmother and wife. She was strong and courageous, but also extremely kind and caring. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.
Susan’s family would like to thank all the staff of the Medicine Hat Hospital 5 East, for the wonderful care and compassion they showed while she was in their care.
At Susan’s request, a private family gathering will be held at a later date. Anyone wishing to remember Susan with a donation may do so to the Make a Wish Foundation, Suite 4, 2308 – 24 Street SW, Calgary, AB T2T 5H8.
