Roy John McGowan-Howard
June 10th, 1981 – August 6th, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Roy John McGowan-Howard announce that he has been gifted the wings that he always wanted.
Roy was a Devoted and loving husband, father, grandad, brother and friend. His smile and laughter were genuine and contagious and will forever be remembered and missed by all that knew him. Roy’s wife, he often referred to as his soulmate, his dream come true, will hold him forever in her heart. His memory and all that he taught her will forever follow her and grant her strength, patience, and the will to continue through life and raising their three children. Daniele showed Roy the beauty of life and that dreams could be turned into reality. She stood by his side through thick and thin and supported him on everything and anything, even if she disagreed, it was always “ok babe, we will get there, we’ve got this”. Daniele and Roy would voice daily to each other “I will love you forever and ever, babe”, the other would respond “forever and ever, babe” followed by a kiss. Roy was frequently recognized, including by strangers, for his parenting abilities and dedication to his children. All his children closely resemble him, spitting images. He loves each and every one of them to the moon and back, no matter what ages, they will forever be his babies. He was an extremely protective, gentle and proud father. He would never allow anything or anyone to hurt them. His memory will forever be in their hearts and are encouraged to never settle, make their mark, forever hold their heads up high and follow their hearts. He always reminded them that life is too short, wake up and smell the roses “We love you, daddy, to the moon and back”. Friends and family will fondly remember all of Roy’s adventures. The great outdoors was Roy’s grounding place, where he always wore a smile and was able to relax. He was always on a new adventure; hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, camping, snow shoeing and most of all, rock and fossil hunting. It was a rare occurrence that Roy would be looking forward, he was always scanning the ground. His collection fills a truck bed.
Roy is predeceased by his mother, June McGowan; father, Francis McPike; nanny and grandad, Roy and Bettine McGowan; uncle, Eric McGowan; cousins, Jamie Pullman and Fred Dunn. He will forever be loved and remembered by his wife, Daniele Peterson-McGowan-Howard with their children, Roy Jr., Ariannah, Justice, Vanessa, Savannah, Brooke and Haiden McGowan, Braden Slaney, Jayden and Ashley Newman, Jordan Koch; grandsons, Everest and Kellin Newman; mother-in-law, Pamela Lanz; sisters, Carol Penney, Kayla and Jasmine Peterson; brothers, Kevin Penney, Tyrell Drader, Trevor Stickel, Matthew Penney and Curtis Kent; nephews, Tyrell Peterson, Kyran and Kael Penney, Owen and Leo Sadler; nieces, Caitlin, Katrina and Quianna Penny; along with many family and friends.
Roy wants each and every one of us to live each day by a phrase posted on the wall in the family home “Live every day as if it’s your last, as tomorrow is never guaranteed”.
