Roy Balston

Roy Whitehorn Balston, beloved husband of Dorothea “Thea” Balston of Medicine Hat, passed away on Monday, October 30th, 2017 at the age of 95 years. Roy also leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Ian (Louise) Balston, Neil Balston and Bruce (Charlane) Balston; three grandchildren, Scott, Kyle (Samantha) and Nicole. Roy was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Margaret Balston; and one brother, Rex. Roy was born in Dorchester, UK and served in WWII in the Royal British Engineers (Bombay Sappers and Miners) from 1942 until 1948. He obtained his Architect and Town Planning degrees. In 1954 Roy met Thea Fussell on the boat while they were both immigrating to Newfoundland and they were married on October 1st, 1955 in Newfoundland. In 1962 they moved to Medicine Hat where Roy was employed with the Regional Planning Commission, retiring in 1983. Roy was an avid stamp collector. He was a gentle, caring man who will be missed.
