Roger J. B.Marple
October 23rd, 1957 – October 24th, 2022
Roger J.B. Marple, age 65, passed away on Monday October 24, 2022, in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Roger was born in Bolton, Ontario to Ralph and Gertrude Marple. He is survived by his 3 children, 3 grandchildren, brother and sister. He grew up in Bolton, Ontario and in adulthood moved to the West and eventually settled in Medicine Hat, which he made his home and lived with his wunder-cat, Bernie. Roger worked for over 23 years for Alberta Health Services. In 2015, Roger was diagnosed with young onset Alzheimer’s, which did not keep Roger down, as he became an outspoken advocate for those with dementia, trying to spread the message that there is still life to live even after diagnosis. He never wanted anyone in the same place as him to ever feel hopeless. Recently, Roger won AGE-WELL’s Honorary Fellow Award, recognizing him as a member who has made long-term and substantial contributions. Roger did much work with Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, advocating against the stigma of dementia and helping with research. Roger was also a board member of the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories. All his volunteer work is the legacy that Roger has left behind. Roger was an avid baker as well, known by his friends and family as a premier butter tart connoisseur.
