Roderick “Rod” Geddes Forsyth
August 3rd, 1943 – November 27th, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Roderick (Rod) Geddes Forsyth on November 27th in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Rod was a cherished community member who left a lasting impact on everyone he met. Born on August 3rd, 1943, in Victoria, BC, Rod grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan, where his passion for sports flourished. A standout moment in his youth was scoring a memorable touchdown at Taylor Field. His love for athletics continued throughout his life, especially in competitive curling and golf.
Rod was deeply committed to community service, lending his time and expertise to numerous nonprofit organizations. He was an active member of the Rotary Club, served on the Medicine Hat Police Commission, and held leadership roles as past president of the United Way of Southeastern Alberta and the Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club. His professional sales journey began with Sears in Saskatchewan and evolved into a distinguished career in radio and television, with roles in Regina, Calgary, and Medicine Hat. Rod’s dedication and professionalism were admired by colleagues and friends alike.
Predeceased by his beloved parents, Muriel and Geddes Forsyth, Rod is lovingly remembered by his brother Derek (Trudy) and nephews Sean and Jay; his son Scott and granddaughter Megan; his daughter Shari (Nandha) and grandchildren Noah, Kyle, and Nisha. He will be dearly missed by his devoted wife of 25 years, Jill, and her children Aaron and Tiana and his grandkids, Navaya, Hank, and Mickey. Rod’s family was his greatest joy and source of pride.
Rod was known for his infectious sense of humour, smooth golf swing, spirited dance moves, and endless repertoire of one-liners and stories. He brought light and laughter to those around him, and his unwavering Rider Pride was a hallmark of his personality.
Rod’s life will be celebrated on December 10th at 1:30 PM at the Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and NWT in Rod’s memory.
Though he is no longer with us, Rod’s spirit, warmth, and love will forever remain in our hearts.
