Richard Keil, formerly of Leader, Saskatchewan, passed away on July 2, 2017, in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ellin; his children, Treena (Dave) Redman and KellyKeil (Tracy Rizzoli) ; his grandchildren, JayEllin St. Jacques, Austin Redman and Scott (Amber) Thome; great-granddaughter, Brie Thome and two step-great grandchildren, Jesse Brown-Holden and Cheyenne Brown-Holden; sisters-in-law, Alice Keil of Calgary, Loretta Shastal of Lethbridge, Doreen Harsch of Calgary, and brother-in-law, Roland (Sandi) Harsch of Abbotsford, BC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Emily Keil; his brothers, Walter and Edward, and his sister, Alice (Sis). Richard was born October 7, 1925, at Estuary, Saskatchewan. He married the love of his life, Ellin, on July 1, 1960, after which they moved back to the family farm. Before then, Richard worked for CP Rail and the Union Milk Company. For 30 years Richard was a councillor for the RM of Deerforks, never missing a meeting. He spent 16 years as a Trustee on the Western Senior Citizen’s Home Board of Directors and gave 34 years of service to the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. Living only a few miles from the South Saskatchewan River, fishing was one of Richard’s favorite pastimes. During the winter months curling was his passion, belonging to both the Mendham and Leader Curling Clubs. He curled in many bonspiels and had the trophies as proof of his love and talent for the sport. He also enjoyed playing ball and played many games in the area. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Shane P. Andrus officiating. Interment will follow in the Prairie View Cemetery.
