Paul Richter passed away on Saturday, December 31 , 2022 at the age of 97 years, beloved husband of Christel Richter of Medicine Hat.
Paul was born in Maraslienfeld, Bessarabia to parents, Reinhold and Lydia Richter. His family left Bessarabia, eventually settling in Germany where he met a beauty, Christel Kort, and they were married 71 years ago. A year later, daughter one, Cornelia (aka Coni) was born and shortly after the family immigrated to Canada, residing in Medicine Hat. A year after resettling, daughter two, Gisela, was born and completed the family.
Dad worked more than 20 years in the Housekeeping Department of the Medicine Hat General Hospital as it was known then. To this day he still calls it “his hospital”. He was amazing, kind, generous to a fault and gentle; his contagious smile won so many hearts. He loved his family unconditionally, and shared the story of Christ’s love to all.
His hobbies included fishing, hiking and camping every summer. He was in his mid-80’s when he went on his last hike up and down Sulphur Mountain in Banff. Gardening was therapeutic for him and the envy of many.
Besides his loving wife, Paul is survived by his children Coni (John) Christo, and their children Kevin (April) Christo, and Opa’s sweetheart great-granddaughter, Kinley; and Sheena (Jim) Slobodian; daughter, Gisela (Vince) Mullan, and their daughter Carrera (Mitch) Kostur. He is also survived by one brother, Rudy (Marlene) Richter; as well as three sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, Reinhold and Lydia Richter, two brothers, two sisters and six sisters-in-law and six brothers-in-law.
