Anna Annastacia better known as Patricia or Pat (Kozy) Heeg of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Herbert Heeg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Candace Ellefson (Rick Monteith) and former son-in-law Bill Gruning (Jean); her grandchildren, Vanessa Gruning (Danny Johnson) and their children Alexandra and Sebastian Johnson; Cordell Gruning and his son Connor Gruning,; nephew, Dennis Bjelland, niece, Lavina Heeg as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was predeceased by her parents, Stephan and Mary Kozy, one son, Dale Price, her sister, Mary Bjelland, and brother, Michael Kozy. Pat was born in Tide Lake, Alberta to Stephan and Mary Kozy. She attended school up until the ninth grade, and then worked for various farmers. In the late 1940’s, she moved to Medicine Hat where she attended secretarial college and later travelled to Banff where she worked as a waitress before hitch hiking across British Columbia to Vancouver. In the 1950’s, she returned to Medicine Hat and became an employee for the glass factory remaining there for many years as well as working as a secretary for the Town Theatre. She met her husband in 1973 and they were married October 25, 1974 in Lethbridge sharing over 30 years of marriage together. Pat worked as the bookkeeper for Herbert’s company. She was a poet and very talented artist and who enjoyed painting with oil and water colours. She created many landscape and animal paintings. Pat was active in life and enjoyed other hobbies such as biking and exercising, card games, entertaining guests, being outdoors, various DIY projects, and being an active member with her condo board. She never missed a soccer game or a horse show that her grandchildren were involved in. For over ten years Pat was a single mom and was very independent. Pat had a kind heart, a friendly personality, and a strong faith in God. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish (1451 Strachan Road S.E.) on Monday April 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Iqbal Khurshid celebrant. The funeral mass will be live streamed.
