Orville Zubot passed away on January 16th, 2019, at the age of 65 years, of Mendham, Saskatchewan, beloved husband of Donna Zubot. Adored by Jesse, Allison, Josh, and Klee.
Orville Gerald Zubot, whose precision and skillfulness was apparent in all his labours as a farmer, steam engineer, musician, and all around repair maverick, died on Wednesday, January 16th, 2019 in Calgary Hospital from Primary Schlerosing Cholangitis, a disease he lived with for over twenty years. He was 65.
Born into the musical family of Anne and Adolph Zubot, Orville grew up playing in his father’s polka band. After becoming a father himself, Orville’s extended drum solos drew his two sons Jesse and Josh and their school friends to the family’s basement with all its rhythmic precision. His saxophones were a pleasure for him. He soared on the harp. A musical perfectionist, he wielded rhythm, melody and texture. In his final days he was patiently learning the mandolin, always expanding, and even in his sickest moments, would pick up an instrument.
Raised in Mendham, Saskatchewan, he grew up with his brothers Victor, Ivan, Blaine and Aaron. He didn’t necessarily want to follow in his father’s footsteps and take over his father’s land, but his loyalty and willingness to do things for others led him to make farming his own. Orville revelled in the many musical and life achievements of his sons. He was a joy to his new daughter Allison (wife of Jesse). He deeply admired and celebrated the clay, sculpture and artwork Donna created throughout their forty-five year marriage. Orville forged loving relationships with Donna’s brothers and their wives, his own brothers and their wives, and all his nieces and nephews.
He also spent a lifetime gathering an extensive and varied album collection, which reflected his knowledge of music and music history. Curious from a young age about lifting the parameters of consciousness and spiritual experiences, he found many ways to travel that were greater than movement. Orville soaked up trips away to visit his two sons and beloved grandson Klee alongside his devoted wife Donna, and never missed an opportunity to interact with new people and make connections. When on his Harley, he was in his element. He loved discovering what the world had to offer. Equally, Orville enjoyed beautiful simplicities; stargazing, eating in quirky cafes, and the score of a good deal.
His stubbornness was loveable and disappeared as fast as it came. Likely because he was a man who knew how to let love in and whose perseverance and reverence for life, nature, and people pushed others around him to live deeper, greater, richer, funnier, more exhaustive lives alongside him. Donna’s love was apparent for him, especially in his absent-minded moments, sometimes hilarious, often exasperating. Despite the fullness of his life and the illnesses he managed, he always offered himself to be a teacher and guide to others. It is suspected he will continue to teach us. The memories are wild. We all wanted even more of them, to squeeze out the most, the way he did. Now we keep him alive in our stories and how we live.
The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with Life Celebrant, David Townsend.
