1923 ~ Nellie Mehrer ~ 2021
Nellie Norma Mehrer was born in Medicine Hat December 12, 1923, lived her entire life here and went home to Heaven on October 16, 2021. She is survived by her brother, Ronald of Ottawa, Ontario and by her nieces and nephews: Brenda Lynde, Lethbridge; Cheryl Mehrer (Desmond Albuguerque), Ajax, Ontario; Barbara Mehrer (Dariusz Galczynski), Ottawa; Keith (Nathalie) Mehrer, Nepean, Ontario; and Glen (Karen) Cooper, Cornwall, Ontario. In addition, she is survived by great-nieces and great-nephews, Shaun Lynde, Nikole Brooks, Michael Brooks, Abigail Mehrer, and Ethan Mehrer as well as her uncle, Lawrence (Laura) Gehring. Nellie was predeceased by her parents Paulina (nee Gehring) and Christian Mehrer, sisters Carolyn (Alfred) Cooper, Eleanor Mehrer, and Marion (Walter) Guzik. She devoted over fifty years bookkeeping for Harry Veiner, initially, at Hycroft China and, later, at all of his holdings. She was an accomplished pianist and organist, playing at weekly church services, weddings, and funerals for many years. Her passion for music also included accompanying solos, duets, trios and quartets, and directing a girls choir in cantatas. She was dedicated to the Lord and her church and taught Sunday school classes to hundreds of children, many who still called her “Auntie Nellie”. Each one was special to her. Nellie also wrote many poems, some general and others for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries and life tributes. We would like to extend a special “Thank you” to the staff at Meadow Ridge Seniors Village who treated her so well over the past nearly four years. A celebration of her life will take place in the spring of 2022. Those who wish to remember Nellie with a donation may do so to the charity of your choice.
