Nancy “Lil” Lily Burgess of Medicine Hat, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018, at the age of 83 years, beloved wife of the late Douglas Burgess. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Robert “Bob” Burgess and Denise (Randy) Burgess-Schwartz; her grandchildren, Brayden, Marissa, Teagan and Connor (Shelby) and their son Haytham; her sister Eunice Bower; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Nancy Hedley; her husband, Douglas Burgess on August 4, 2009; her brothers, Bill and Leonard; and her sisters; Audrey and Mary.
Lil grew up on the family ranch in Manyberries, Alberta and at an early age moved to Medicine Hat to grow her career in the insurance business. Eventually, she met Doug Burgess, they married in 1961 and set out to raise a family. In 1967, they purchased the Dairy Queen franchise and owned and operated various locations throughout the city. She and Doug had always planned on retiring, buying a Winnebago RV and writing a book about all the funny events and incredible staff members they had encountered during their 47 years in the DQ business. Lil certainly enjoyed life; always surrounded by many friends. Her greatest joy was felt through the love for her grandchildren.
As such, Lil had requested a private family gathering to honor her memory.
