Maureen Holizki
March 24, 1949 ~ May 5, 2026
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Maureen Anne Holizki on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the age of 77 years. Maureen is survived by her husband of 57 years, Mervin, and by their four children: Tamara (Mark) Miyanaga, Tara (Maurey) Salmon, Joe (Kim) Holizki and Heather (Trevor) McKinnon; eleven grandchildren: Katrina (Joe), Téa (Trevor), Skylar (Jason), Mackenzie (Brett), Jasmin, Hannah, Kayla (Aaron), Tianna (Zac), Jalayna (Jacob), Nolan and Tavia; five great-grandchildren: Kyzer, Asher, Theo, Claire and Walter; sister, Sheila (Ed) Sampson and brothers, James (Gail) Casey and Patrick Casey. Maureen was born on March 24, 1949, in Wolseley, Saskatchewan, to Bill and Alicia Casey and was raised in Estevan, Saskatchewan. Maureen and Mervin were married in 1968. She graduated from the Grey Nuns Hospital School Of Nursing in 1971 as a Registered Nurse. Maureen and Mervin moved to Gull Lake, Saskatchewan in 1971 and immersed themselves in family, friends and community. Late in her career, Maureen returned to her studies to become a Nurse Practitioner – a remarkable achievement that reflected her dedication to lifelong learning and patient care. After Maureen’s retirement from nursing, she continued to use her nursing skills and compassionate nature to help people. Maureen was a well respected and dedicated nurse in Gull Lake, Herbert and the northern communities of Saskatchewan. In 2020, Maureen and Mervin moved to Medicine Hat. Since her initial cancer diagnosis in 2008, Maureen exemplified strength, determination, resilience and courage. Maureen’s greatest accomplishment was her family. To her, the grandchildren were the light of her life. Many miles were spent on the road to watch sporting events, piano recitals and dance competitions, as well as to attend birthdays, graduations, weddings and much more. The support that she gave her children and grandchildren is immeasurable. The funeral service will be held at St. Anne’s Parish in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with Deacon David Hagel officiating.
