Marion Edith Purves of Medicine Hat, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at the age of 98 years, beloved wife of the late Jim Purves. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Kerry (Peggy) Purves and Jim (Dolores) Purves; fourteen grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; four sisters, Margaret, Phyllis, Mona and Jean. She was predeceased by her husband James on October 1, 1979; three daughters Marlene Clow, Gail Benkendorf and Myrla Purves; her sister Kathleen and her brothers, Doug, James, John and Dick Duncombe. Marion (Duncombe) was born on October 9, 1919 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. At a young age she moved with her family to the Carievale, Saskatchewan area attending school in the Workman district. On Aug. 10,1942 she married Jim Purves and they continued to farm the home place at Carievale and later moving to Carnduff,Oxbow, and Frobisher. While raising her family she did a lot of sewing and baking for which she was rewarded for at the Annual Fair. Following her husband’s death in 1979, she moved back to Medicine Hat. She enjoyed hobbies such as quilting and oil painting, some of which her grandchildren have displayed in their homes. The funeral service will be held at a later date, arrangements will be announced when completed.
