Margaret Rose Bayer of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 28, 2018, surrounded by family, at the age of 77 years. Margaret is survived by her loving husband for 54 years, Oscar; her daughter Lynn Jonker and son Jason (Natalie) Bayer; her grandchildren, Calli Jonker (Michael Malinowski) and Josh Jonker, Timothy and Alexander Bayer. Margaret will also always be remembered by her siblings, Judy Lane, George (Gale) Hammel and Fran (Barry) Carlson; her sisters-in-law Sharon Hammel (LeRoy), Helen Bayer (Ed) and Helen Bayer (Fred) . Marg was predeceased by her parents John and Anna Maria Hammel, her brother LeRoy Hammel, brothers-in-law, Haven Lane, Ed Bayer, Fred Bayer, Gus Plato and Otto Kanewischer; sisters-in-law, Edna Kanewischer, Louise Plato and Lil Radke. Marg was a dedicated servant to many. She took her responsibility as a daughter, sister, wife and mother very seriously. Being the oldest, Marg took charge of her parents when they moved to town. After their passing she became the self appointed Matriarch of the family. As a sister, Marg’s domesticated style kept her siblings well fed and dish-pan hands free. As a working wife she shared all the household duties with Oscar. Motherhood to her meant that respect and honesty were the attributes she wanted instilled in her children and grandchildren. For 37 years, her dedication continued through her career as an LPN on the Pediatric Ward of the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. She loved children and they loved her! She was often the recipient of cards and gifts from her former patients well into her retirement years. Her mothering nature towards the children carried through to her colleagues, many of which remain great friends. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the ICU staff at the hospital for the care and support given to all her family. Marg’s life journey was shaped by her faith from her Baptism to her Funeral Mass. The funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church (238 2nd Ave N.E.) on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Tomy Manjaly celebrant. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital “Pediatrics Department” 666 5th Street SE, Medicine Hat, AB.
