1959 ~ Linda Cross ~ 2021
Linda Doreen Cross passed away peacefully, after a courageous battle with ALS on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 in her 62nd year. Beloved wife of Randy Cross of Medicine Hat, Linda leaves behind to cherish her memory her parents Reta and Charles Cook, Randy’s three children, Jennifer (Dan) Groenendyk and their children, Catrynaa, Tayte, Kaylee, Payton, Danika, Abel, Jake, and Julia; Marla (Jason) DeGroot and their children, Evan and Logan; and Shaun Cross and his children Karizma, Sariyen, Noah and their mother Nicole; her two brothers, Marvin Cook; Glenn (Rebecca) Cook and their children, Cassidy and Jesse; two sisters, Barbie Cook and Brenda Cook (David); as well as numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Linda’s greatest accomplishment in life was the imprint she left on others through her loving and caring way with both family and friends. Her goal was always to do whatever she could to lighten everyone’s load. If you needed her she was there, whether it was across the province or across the country, be it a celebration, a crisis or cleaning out a basement, she was there. Her smile, laughter and kind nature along with her genuine love of life will be remembered by all who crossed her path. Linda kept her sense of humour and her ability to put others first until the end, she will be remembered as a fighter to all who love her.
Linda spent much of her life in Alberta with her devoted husband Randy, that’s where she called home, but the home of her heart and birthplace was with her mom and dad, who still reside there in the family home in Baddeck, Cape Breton.
She lived her life with a passion for giving and fought her disease with courage and grace, she had a smile that not even ALS could shake.
Linda could be quite witty, her humour became more evident during her struggles – a way of coping with such a devastating diagnosis. You know families sometimes have an unspoken language and Linda’s could be a look, a huff or the roll of an eye but you always knew where you stood with her. She was loyal and loving.
She was a lifetime weight watcher member and oh so proud of it, unfortunately she would always be looking at what you had on your plate and there would always be a comment! However, when she came home to Cape Breton, we were always amazed that ice cream and her mom’s oatcakes never had any weight watcher points.
Linda lived her life by these two quotes which we should all follow, “I sustain myself with the love of family” and “In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”
We would like to thank her friends and neighbours who gave Linda strength and support and helped her through many difficult days. To all the medical staff, home support workers and her ALS family and team, we profoundly thank you for your care and support.
“Let your smile change the world, but don’t let the world change your smile.” Love you Linda, you are our hero.
