1927 ~ Doris Martin ~ 2021
It is with both sadness and joy that we announce that Lillian “Doris” Martin passed peacefully into the presence of our Lord at the age of 94 on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 with family at her side. Doris was born on March 3, 1927 to Ottilie and John Enslen at Wisdom, Alberta. In 1952, she married the love of her life Ben Martin and they were inseparable. They farmed in the Golden Prairie area where they raised their two sons teaching them to work hard, fear the Lord and respect your neighbours. Doris leaves to cherish her memory her sons Laren and Daryl (Loretta), her grandchildren Erin (Tim) Hennigar, Elaine (Jeff) Campbell, Rylan (Jen) Martin, and Curtis, Colby (Courtney) and Jeffrey Schnell, great grandchildren Jaidyn and Brenna Hennigar; Isaac, Lincoln and Avery Campbell; Louisa and Juliet Martin; Victoria, Xander, Ryen and Lily Schnell as well numerous nieces, nephews and one brother-in-law Melvin Martin. She was predeceased by Ben, after 65 years of marital bliss in 2018. She was also predeceased by her parents, six sisters and two brothers and their spouses, Hanna (Chris Seitz), Mary (John Seitz), Emma (Albert Seitz), John Enslen (Lydia), Bill Enslen (Mary), Frieda (Laverne Boschee), Melba (Richard Fauser), and Edna (Alvin Reiger), and in-laws Herb and Viola Martin, Esther and Bill Muhlbeier, Marvin and Marijka Martin.
When they came to retirement age, Dad wanted Mom to live closer to her family so they moved to Medicine Hat in 1983. Always involved in church, they contributed to the Temple Baptist church family. They loved music and sang in choirs, quartets and as a duet on many occasions. In 2012, they moved to Heritage Heights at South Country Village and eventually they both completed life’s journey at Sunnyside Nursing Home.
Mom was an encourager who exemplified love in action without judgement. If she had any complaints about anything or anyone she laid them at the feet of Jesus. She was not afraid to challenge someone if she thought there was an injustice but did so with grace. Her life was an example of wisdom and faith passed on from generation to generation. May we continue this example.
The family especially wants to acknowledge the compassionate and genuine care Mom received while she was at South Country Village. Thank you to all of the staff in Haven Villa, Haven and Sunnyside. Family and friends who wish to pay their respects may do so at the church on Friday from 12:30 – 1:25 p.m. The funeral service will be held in Temple Baptist Church (606 7th Street SW) on Friday, July 16, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Robert Findley officiating. If you wish to watch the funeral via live streaming you may do so by following this link: https://vimeo.com/event/1136841. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
