“Leo” Arthur Leon Joseph Lasante passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2019, at the age of 89 years, beloved husband of Evelyn Lasante of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory his two children, Ann Renee Lasante (fiancé James Lehr) and Dan Lasante (Cheryl Popescul); eight grandchildren, Ote Poirier (Makayla Bridges), Saige (Luke) Kallen, Shiloh (Jack) Plante, Cameron Lasante, Shenai Neugebauer, Ace Neugebauer, Tyra Lehr and Zane Lehr; three great grandchildren, Layla Gerard, Tennessee Kallen and Kallahan Kallen; three brothers, Bert (Colleen) Lasante, John (Bonnie) Lasante and Fritz (Barb) Lasante; four sisters, Marion Tessier, Louise Lasante, Corrine Lasante, Agnes (Bob) Osadchuk and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Madeleine (Leveille) and Alfred Lasante; four brothers, Baby Edward, Armand, Joe and Ed and one sister & brother-in-law, Betsy (Jack Bolianatz). Leo was born on June 19, 1930 in Pontieux, Saskatchewan. Heaven has gained another cowboy. Leo was one of a kind, full of humour and wit. He was tougher than tough, with a huge kind heart. He had a soft spot for children and animals. Family above all else mattered to Leo which included his wife “Evie” whom he loved for 60 years, his two children of whom he was so very proud, and so many siblings nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a voracious reader, had a huge appreciation and passion for western art, especially Charlie Russell, and loved to play crib. If you came to visit there was a good chance he would challenge you to a game. Taking great pride in his Métis heritage, he held a deep appreciation for the land and nature, passed on to him by his mother and grandfather Gabe Leveille who had been a Métis Scout for the NWMP. He loved rodeos, hunting, camping and fishing. Leo lived life by his own rules, one of which was to never complain and just “Grin and Bear it” when things got tough. His saying was “May as well find something to laugh about, no sense laying around crying and feeling sorry for yourself…” which he proved true to the very end. His joking witty nature, stories of times long past, and horses loved as family will be forever missed but etched in the memories and hearts of his family and friends. A celebration of life with family and friends will be held Saturday, August 3rd in the Cypress Hills, Saskatchewan.
