1967 – Kent McKay – 2022
It is with extreme sadness we announce that Kent W. McKay (formerly of Grande Prairie) passed away in Medicine Hat on March 17, 2022, after a courageously fought battle with cancer. Kent will be greatly missed by his beloved wife and best friend, Tammy Hansen-McKay. He also leaves to cherish his memory, his parents, Joan and Allen Young; brother, Wade McKay; his father-in-law, Keld Hansen; two step-sisters, Dawn Marie Westad (Mike) and Natalie Mayne (Darcy); “self-adopted” brothers, Brian Richardson (Anne) and Gord Rintoul (Pam), as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins and extended relatives throughout Alberta, B.C., Saskatchewan and across the country. He was predeceased by his father Jim McKay and numerous other family members.
It is difficult to capture and express what a wonderful person Kent was. Born in Edmonton, he moved to Grande Prairie in 1978 with his mother and brother. He lived in Grande Prairie until 2013 when he and Tammy moved to Medicine Hat.
Kent was an amazing man who had the largest heart for everyone else. He was kind, loving, hardworking and had a gentle spirit. He loved helping and providing for his family and was a great friend. He had a wonderful sense of adventure and was willing to try any type of activity. He loved living each moment and taking advantage of every minute and staying active.
During the last two years, we would like to thank family and friends for their kindness, love and support (while Kent was receiving treatment and under “isolation”); Glendon and Paula, Tracey, Andy and Laurelle, Trevor and Michelle, Sheila and Ken, Elaine Moses and any other friends that we may have forgotten to mention. Your kindness and love was and is truly appreciated. Also, thank you to the kind Staff at the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre and Dr. Marc Webster.
In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in Kent’s name to the following charity: Moses-Mueller Compassionate Patient Support Foundation (provides accommodation for out of town patients of Calgary Hospitals and treatment facilities while patients undergoing medical care and treatments).
A celebration of Kent’s life will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 3:00 pm. The memorial service will be live streamed, and family and friends who are unable to attend are invited to watch the service by searching for the Pattison Funeral Home Youtube page. The video will go live 10 minutes prior to service time and will remain on the youtube page for future viewing.
