Kenneth William Gair
October 9, 1947 ~ July 7, 2022
Ken was born in The Pas, MB., on October 9, 1947, the only son of Jean and Bill Gair. He was raised on the farm in the Carrot Valley and attended school in the Pas and the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. After school, he spent a year exploring the British Isles and France, delving into family history and enjoying the old world atmosphere. On his return to Canada, he worked as a surveyor, a carpenter and on construction across Western and Northern Canada. He married Victoria Percy in 1974, and together they made their home in various areas including B.C., Northern Alberta, Weyburn, SK, Cowan, MB., and finally Redcliff where they eventually retired to enjoy their home and garden while spending time with family and friends. Their adventures over the years would fill a book! Their home, wherever it was, became the hub of the wheel around which their large family revolved. Ken was predeceased by his wife, Victoria, in 2021 as well as his step-son, Ron Percy, in 2016. A dedicated scholar, historian, author and musician, Ken left this world on Thursday, July 7, 2022, while at St. Joseph’s Hospice with family at his side following a 6 month bout with cancer. He leaves to treasure his memory: granddaughter, Amy (Jesse) Finnerty and family – Style, Tressie and Elder as well as Candi Percy and son, Syah; sister, Jeanne (Vernon) LaJambe and family; brothers-in-law, Jean (Betty) Rivard and Glen (Bev) Rivard as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of good friends. The following is a quote taken from Ken’s memoirs… “I see now that my legacy, my gift to the world, is all you people who I’ve loved. I feel like I’ve been given a gift of love – to give and to receive. And I’ve loved and been loved by such wonderful people. That’s the best legacy I can leave the world, and that’s enough.” Rest in peace, Ken and Vic. You will be so missed. A celebration of the lives of Ken and Vic Gair will be held at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, 635 – 4 Street S.E., Medicine Hat on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Oz Lorentzen officiating.
