1937 ~ Ben Broderick ~ 2021
Keith “Ben” Broderick of Maple Creek passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021 at the age of 83 years, beloved husband of Effie Broderick of Maple Creek. He leaves to cherish his memory four children: Bill (Cathie) Broderick, Jim (Joanie) Broderick, Raymond (Ava) Broderick and Jean Broderick (Brad); eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren: Nicole (Harvey) Espinosa and their son Lucas; Diana (Jonah) Tan and their daughter Elizabeth; Jeremy Broderick; Matthew (Trapheana) Broderick; Jessica Martin and her son Landon; Ryan (Naomi) Martin; Jillian Broderick and Tiffany Broderick; two sisters-in-law, Gail Bruce and Donna Raymer. He was predeceased by his parents William and Pearl Broderick, his brother Blair and two brothers-in-law Tom Bruce and Arthur Raymer. Ben was born on July 24, 1937, in Collingwood Ontario and raised in Creemore. After graduating from high school, he joined the RCMP in December of 1955. He met Effie Raymer in Weyburn. They were married on September 24, 1960 in Star City, Saskatchewan. During his career with the RCMP he was stationed in Maple Creek twice, Ponteix, Consul, Pelly, Prince Albert and finally Kindersley. He retired from the Force in Kindersley and “went home” to Maple Creek. Ben was a fascinating person with many interests. After retiring from the RCMP he started a commercial bee business, Cypress Hills Honey Farm which his son, Raymond, continues to run. He worked at the Cypress Hills Provincial Park until he was 65. Ben was always busy, in retirement, he also served South West Saskatchewan as the Coroner for many years. Ben enjoyed metal detecting, collecting guns, model trains and Saskatchewan town commemorative plates. Out of his many past times, Ben’s favourite was to visit with friends and tell stories. His love of Maple Creek made him an avid amateur historian of Maple Creek and area. He enjoyed driving around the countryside, shooting gophers and talking about the history of the area. Another prominent hobby of his was building bird houses. He built thousands over the years and placed them along the countryside. Ben was a gregarious, humorous, and loving man. He will be missed by family and friends. He will be laid to rest at the Maple Creek Cemetery. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private funeral service will be held at a later date. Those who wish to remember Ben with a donation, may do so to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
