It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Karen Anne Shaw announce her passing at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice, in Medicine Hat on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at the age of 73 years. She was born in Grand Forks, BC., living in Salmon Arm and Brooks before settling in Medicine Hat. Karen was proud to have served in the Royal Canadian Navy and became a life long advocate for the Royal Canadian Legion. She was a life time member of the Royal Canadian Legion serving in positions of Vice President of Command, District Commander and Deputy District Commander. Karen’s greatest achievement was the honour of receiving the Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) which she accepted in March 2022. She had one of the biggest hearts, loving and caring but took no bull from anyone. Her cats, Charlie, Cindy, Olive and Mike were especially important to her. Karen will be lovingly remembered in the hearts of her children, Wade Filipchuck, Dawn (Dennis) Greenwood and Shawn (Wanda) Knutson; grandchildren, Cherrain Filipchuck, Paul, Katherine and Kimberly Greenwood and Preston Knutson; including her siblings, Jackie (Lou) Haynes and Mark (Anette) Simmons as well as her countless many friends. Karen was pre-deceased by her parents, William and Norma Simmons and her good friend, Ronnie Bishop. A celebration of Karen’s life will be held at the Redcliff Cemetery, Redcliff, Alberta on Friday, July 15, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., with Dr. David Carter presiding. A time of fellowship will follow at the Redcliff Legion.
