Joyce was born and raised in Scottsburgh, Saskatchewan. After completing Grade 8, she helped care for her siblings and quickly developed the strong work ethic and caring nature that would define her life. She worked part-time as a waitress, but her most important role was that of homemaker, dedicating herself to raising her children and creating a loving home for her family. Later in life, Joyce was baptized in the Church of God, a meaningful step in her faith journey. On October 12, 1955, Joyce married Ernest “Duke” Edward Bulbeck, at the United Church in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. The couple made their first home in Swift Current before Duke’s work transferred them to Estevan. After a few years, they returned to Swift Current, where they built a life together and raised their family. Following Duke’s passing, Joyce moved to Medicine Hat to be closer to loved ones. Family was the center of Joyce’s world. She was loving, compassionate and endlessly generous, cherishing every opportunity to gather with those she loved. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy and she treasured every visit, milestone and memory shared with them. Joyce and Duke shared a love of camping, boating and travelling throughout Canada. One of their most cherished destinations was “The Farm” in Neidpath, Saskatchewan, where countless family gatherings and treasured memories were made. After moving to Medicine Hat, Joyce purchased her own motorhome and spent many happy summers camping at Rattlesnake Lake. It was there that she met her second life partner, Gerry Fitzhenry. Together they enjoyed many years of camping and companionship, later spending summers in Maple Creek until the sad day came that they had to give that up. Joyce found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved cooking, baking, crocheting, completing crossword puzzles, playing Yahtzee and card games and spending time with family and friends. She was an enthusiastic sports fan who enjoyed watching curling, football and hockey. She and Duke were devoted supporters of the Swift Current Broncos and rarely missed a chance to cheer on their favourite teams. Throughout her life, Joyce was active in her community, including membership in the Swift Current Oil Wives Club and the Basterettes in Medicine Hat. Christmas was her favourite time of year. She delighted in decorating, baking, hosting family gatherings and creating lasting memories for those she loved. Family reunions, weddings, holidays and visits with her grandbabies brought her immense happiness. Joyce also shared her life with many beloved dogs over the years. Her faithful companion, Ginger, was by her side for twelve years and crossed the rainbow bridge in February, surely waiting to welcome Joyce once again. Of all her accomplishments, Joyce considered her greatest achievement to be her family. The love, values and traditions she passed on will continue through generations to come. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
