They moved back to Australia before eventually residing in Maple Creek. Once in Maple Creek, the couple started several businesses, including the Roundup Drive-in and Big Gallon Car Wash, and John began building and leasing properties. Eventually, they, sold their businesses and properties and moved to Medicine Hat. Thelma passed in June of 2005.
John continued to live in Medicine Hat and later married Peggy Blumhagen on January 4, 2008. The two loved to travel and went to Hawaii and Australia for several winters in addition to visiting Mexico and the United States.
