John Dyck

John Dyck passed away peacefully with Tammy by his side at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at the age of 79 years. John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Linda; daughter, Tammy (Graeme) Carlson and his one and only precious granddaughter, Kaylin, whom he loved so much; sisters, Mary Siemens and Annie Wall; sister-in-law, Anne Dyck; brothers-in-law, Rod (Olga) Sommerfeld and Lawrence (Lori) Sommerfeld as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, John H.B. Dyck and Mary Dyck; brother, Jake Dyck; brothers-in-law, John Siemens and Art Wall as well as his mother and father-in-law, John and Katherine Sommerfeld. John was raised on the family farm South of Swift Current, SK. and worked for Pioneer Grain for 30 years. In January 1966, John started his career as a grain buyer in Simmie, SK., and as the years went by, transferred and moved to Viking, AB., and retired with Pioneer Grain in Vulcan, AB., in 1996. John’s love for playing crib and drinking coffee was part of the day if anyone stopped in the office to visit. Official retirement was not in his vocabulary. Soon he would be working for Alberta Wheat Pool (Agricore) where he could work but not be the one in charge. As years went on, John enjoyed a few years running deliveries for Fed-Ex, bringing Linda along for the ride on a few trips. His stops included Brooks so it worked out great that he could have short visits with Tammy and her family. Vulcan Golf Course was probably his best job. He had such a great time working with the guys there. John had a mower named “John’s Deere” since he had the knack to operate and fix it. In 2014, the decision was made to move to Medicine Hat and enjoy condo living. He continued his love for cutting grass at the Connaught Golf Course in Medicine Hat. In his spare time, John would enjoy swimming, going for walks and making time to play crib with friends and to be with his family. To all who knew John, you couldn’t find more of a true gentleman who could always find the good in everything. Even through his battle with cancer he took value in spending quality time with his family even if it was to go for tests and appointments or hospital stays. John’s memory will be cherished in the hearts of his many friends and family whom he was truly grateful to have shared his life with. Thank you to Dr.Tainsh, Dr. Foley and the staff at the Carmel Hospice for all their dedicated care they provided to John. At John’s request no formal funeral service will be held.
