Jerome “Jerry” Swanson was born in Medicine Hat on July 10, 1939 to Charlie and Adela Swanson. He left us to be with the Lord and his sweet little Shawna on January 9, 2024. Jerry lived a large life filled with great joy and much happiness. His biggest accomplishment was being a family man and his love for all. Married in 1965 to Carol, and raising three girls, Lori Ann, Shawn Leigh, and Toni Lynn, was one of his greatest joys. He moved to Maple Creek in 1968 and was owner/operator of Cowtown Livestock Auction Ring for many years. They then moved to Red Deer where he helped Carol run their Workwear World stores. Missing Maple Creek and the cowboy way of life, he moved back home and took up silver work and got a job working with cattle at the One-Four Research Station, where he made many life long friends. At the age of 65 years, he met Patty, and they lived in their little blue house on the corner, and built JP’s Silver and Leather. They toured around the country selling their silver and leather products. Together they made a beautiful life, full of wonderful adventures and accomplishments. In 2009, they moved to Medicine Hat, living out the rest of his life with his dog Jewels and all of his girls. For all who knew Jerry…it was never good bye…it was always “see you later partner”. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Patty, daughters, Lori Ann Swanson (Mike Burton), Toni (Chad) Kootnekoff and Lesley Lebel; his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Tyler Swanson (Skyla Dopp) and their children Natalie, Sterling and Braelynn; Zoey Neilson, Thomas Lebel (Maddie) and their son Barrett; and Connor Hilliand; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry was predeceased by his parents, one daughter Shawna Leigh and one sister Betty Watts. A Celebration of Jerry’s life will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at the Maple Creek Elks Club (521 5th Ave). The service will be live streamed.
