1934 – 2022
Jerold Daniels passed away on July 27th, 2022, at the age of 87 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Evelyn; daughters, Roxanne (Walter) Willford and Wendy (Mat) Kimball; son, Curtis (Marge) Daniels; grandchildren, Marlyssa Willford, Jeradan (Jillana) Willford, Joshua Willford, Denalyn Kimball, Danielle Kimball, Marcy Kimball, Cortlin (Megan) Daniels, Jaxon Daniels, Kayla (Mac) Myers and Maria (Daniel) Thomas; two great grandchildren; sisters, Mable (Gene) Jesse, Joyce (Emile) Pelchat and Virgina (Syd) Rau; sister-in-law, Margaret Daniels; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerold was predeceased by his parents, Fredrick and Ida Daniels; son, Dallas Daniels; brothers, Bruce Daniels and Earl Daniels; sister, Sharon.
Jerry was born on the family farm in Robsart, Saskatchewan on December 10th, 1934. He then moved with his family to Rolling Hills, Alberta in 1939.
He attended school in Rolling Hills, graduating in Brooks, Alberta in 1954. He went on to International Bible College in Outram, Saskatchewan where he met the love of his life, Evelyn Guenther. Upon graduation they were married in Coalridge, Montana on June 27th, 1957.
Jerry and Evie pastored in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan where Roxanne and Wendy joined them, then on to Estevan, Saskatchewan adding Curtis and Dallas to the family. Other places they pastored were Medicine Hat, Winnipeg, Moosomin and Oxbow. They retired to Medicine Hat where Jerry continued to minister in a variety of ways.
Jerry served Western Canada Church of God on the International Bible College and Youth boards. He spent many weeks preparing for and working at Youth Camps and many other children and youth events. He loved to sing and lead worship at various functions and events. Jerry was also known to whistle while he worked.
During the 70’s Jerry went to school and obtained his Journeyman Electricians Licence. This enabled him to help support his family by working at J&M Electric in Medicine Hat and the CN in Winnipeg.
Even though Jerry left the family farm for the ministry, his heart always stayed connected with the farm and family. Although distance kept them apart, regular visits were made to parents and siblings. Jerry especially loved to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and any other special day.
The family spent many hours in the car travelling to various church events, Family Camps, Youth Camps, and General Assembly as the kids got older. Summertime also included family trips to visit the Daniels and Guenther families, also camping trips with the camper trailer that dad had built. The family would head to B.C for fruit and camp along the way, or head across to the states to explore new areas, or Cypress Hills Park, either Saskatchewan side or Alberta. Lots of family fun was involved.
Jerry and Evie enjoyed traveling. They traveled to South Africa to visit their doctor friend from Oxbow. They also went on a group bus trip to the Maritimes. Jerry also went to Haiti on a missions trip. Wherever they went they always returned with lots of pictures and stories.
Jerry’s grandchildren admired and respected him, and he loved to be with them. A favourite tradition was to make homemade ice cream with the grandchildren at Christmas. His Chinese Checkers game was always ready for competition, and he taught them how to be strategic in playing Convoy/Battleship, a favorite family game. He was a storyteller, a puzzle sorter, teacher and listener. Most of all he was an example of love for Jesus and others. Almost all family get togethers included singing a hymn or two and ended with Jerry praying a blessing over the family.
To try and put memories of 87 years in a nutshell is hard. These memories are attached to the love that Jerry had for his wife, family, the love he had for the Lord and his involvement with the church. He taught his family by example, and his desire to win others for Jesus was evident. His family and friends will miss him, but they are glad to know he’s celebrating in heaven.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 5th at Hillcrest Church @ 1:30pm. A private family interment will take place prior to service.
