Patricia Jean McDougald was born on July 2, 1931 to parents Cecil and Muriel Coupland in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. She was the oldest of four kids but only by 20 minutes as her twin sister June was not far behind. Mom loved her childhood where she always said, “Everyone was the same. None of us had any money but we had a lot more than money could buy.” She had the utmost respect for her parents who worked hard and raised them well. Mom felt she was blessed to have had four children with her first husband Stuart Forbes and always felt that Maple Creek was a wonderful place to raise a family. She enjoyed working as a nurse in Maple Creek and had lifelong friends from those years. After Dad passed away in 1974, Mom married Alex McDougald in 1976. We moved to the ranch and they later retired into Medicine Hat. They had a wonderful life for 33 years until his passing in 2010. He kept her on her toes as he was full of life and loved an adventure. She loved every minute of learning about ranch life and became a valuable partner to him through the years. They had a great group of friends that went on cruises, golf tours, camping, card nights and many meals were spent together. She really enjoyed her visits with her brother and sisters. She and her twin ended up wintering together for a dozen years or so in Surprise , Arizona and they all enjoyed the break from the Canadian winters for that time. Mom wasn’t much for movies or sitcoms but she sure enjoyed watching curling, golf and playing Bridge. She played other games but Bridge was her favourite. She loved watching curling so much that we joked that you would only visit the profile of half her face if curling was on as she couldn’t tear her eyes away from it. She also enjoyed the odd bet against Gord for the final games of curling, but never more than a toonie. She was a classy lady who didn’t judge people but instead accepted that everyone should just do what they needed to do to be happy. Mom loved her children, all who vied for the coveted spot of being her “favourite child”. That would never happen as she was as fair as the day is long and never wavered, despite all the teasing. She loved the diversity of her kids, a sailor, a cowboy, a banker and a school secretary. She took an interest in each and every one of our lives. She loved all her grandkids and great grandkids and loved hearing the sweet and humourous stories. A life well-loved and a life well-lived.
Mom is survived by her four children, Doug (Pat) Forbes of Calgary, Gordon (Patti) Forbes, David (Sue) Forbes, all of Medicine Hat and Linda (Terry Carter) Morey of Duchess; her grandchildren Tyler Forbes (Sara Laskoski), Jared (Caitlin) Forbes, Casey (Carina) Forbes, Kyle (Allana) Forbes, Hilary (Jarrod) Blanchette, Sydney Forbes, Ben Morey and Haley Morey; eight great grandchildren; her twin sister June Tetrault and sister Doreen Bunting; one sister-in-law Marg Coupland, and their families.
