Janis Booker
July 20, 1949 ~ October 4, 2024
Janis Booker, beloved wife of the late Garland Booker, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family at St. Joseph’s Home Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the age of 75 years.
Born on July 20, 1949, in Roblin, Manitoba, Janis grew up in her hometown, where she met the love of her life, Garland. High school sweethearts, they were married when she was just 19, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, laughter, and shared dreams.
Janis and Garland moved west to Calgary, where they bought their first home, a milestone that marked the beginning of many adventures. In 1975, they relocated to Redcliff and founded El-San Industries, building the business from the ground up. It was here that Janis found her true calling—not only as a supportive wife, but also as a caring figure for many of the young adults who moved out west. She became a surrogate mother to them, always offering a hot meal, a comfortable home, clean clothes and emotional and financial support. Her hospitality left a lasting impact and meant so much to them.
Janis and Garland lived in the same house for 49 years, a home she proudly maintained and always said she could happily live in forever. Her home was more than a residence—it was a haven for family and friends, a place filled with laughter, delicious meals, and unforgettable memories. Janis was an incredible host, known for her generosity and her ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved. She truly made the house a home!
Though she had a fear of flying, Janis didn’t let that stop her from traveling and exploring new places. She was spontaneous and always ready for an adventure, often organizing family trips in no time at all. Her love for traveling was rivaled only by her passion for gardening and watching her grandchildren shine in their sports and activities. Janis was the definition of a supportive, family-oriented lady, always putting her loved ones first.
She will be deeply missed and will be forever cherished and remembered by her children: daughter, Tracy (Steve) Forbes and their children, Brianna, Grant and Cassandra; son, Donald (Daria) Booker and their children, Ryan and James; two brothers, sisters-in-law as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her husband, Garland; her parents; 2 brothers, 4 sisters and extended family.
