Irene Clara Stock passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, beloved wife of the late, Edwin Stock, who passed way on April 15, 2011. She was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Clara Bohnet and one grandson, Graham Stock. Irene is survived by her daughter, Edith (Douglas) Elliott and their children, Katrise (Layne) Rossi and Katina Ross (Joe Davidson); son, Edward (Judy) Stock and their children, Delayne (Tim) Sackman, Hayli (Mathew) Scott, Tanner Stock (Shawna Haranyi); daughter, Mayda (Rob) Wall and her children, Melissa Gertner (Marc Schirok) and Heather Hadley (Shane Donner), step-sons, Adam Wall and Robert Wall. Irene’s three children gave her nine wonderful great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two brothers, George (Rose) Bohnet and Jim Bohnet; two sisters-in-law, Esdella Herman and Lily Stock, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Irene married Edwin Stock in 1947, and they farmed in the Thelma area most often referred to as “The Bench”. Over the years, Irene became well known as an excellent cook. She cooked at the Girl Guides camp in Elkwater and on highway construction camp jobs at various locations. In 1969, they moved to a farm East of Medicine Hat. Irene began working in Medicine Hat, first at Sunnyside Nursing Home and later at the Parklane Hotel. In 1974, Edwin and Irene took over operation of the Black and White Coffee Shop which became their real passion for thirteen years. After leaving the coffee shop they operated Al’s Coin Laundry in Crestwood until their retirement. Edwin and Irene eventually moved into the Haven and enjoyed playing cards and socializing with all the residents. Irene then spent the past three years at Riverview Care Center where she received excellent care. She will always be remembered as an outstanding cook whose kitchen was always open. Irene’s ability to make conversation with everyone she met made her many friends. Irene’s life will be celebrated at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 – 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, on Monday, April 23, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bob Findley officiating. A private family interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Irene’s name can be made to a charity of ones choice.
