Ida Mack
1930 ~ 2025
It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Ida Elsie Mack. She passed away peacefully st Good Samaritan Southridge Village in Medicine Hat on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, and went to her eternal home into the loving embrace of her God and Savior at the age of 94 years.
Ida grew up in Southern Alberta where she helped her parents diligently inside the home and out, and acquired the skills and knowledge to later work alongside her late husband, Edwin Mack on their farm.
Caring for cows, hauling wheat, and keeping a meticulous house was where you’d find Ida when she wasn’t standing by her husband handing him tools as he fixed the equipment. She thoroughly enjoyed music, taught her sisters guitar, and learned to play the organ. Baseball was a favourite pastime, and her love of sweets manifested itself in the legendary candy drawer that was always kept well supplied.
Memorable to all who knew Ida was her faith and deep love of Christ, shown by her faithful prayers, well worn bibles and hymn book. Her home and phone line were always open to her family. She spent her final days with at least one of her children by her side, sometimes singing her favourite hymns and always cherishing the company of her family. Among the roles Ida held in her life, including farmer and homemaker, none was more important than who she was to her family – a devoted daughter, wife, sister, aunt, Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son and daughter, James (Marie) Mack and Isabel Jans (Earl Westergreen); her grandchildren, Kurtis (Stacey) Jans, Jesse (Melanie) Mack, Joseph (Becky) Mack, Elizabeth (Lazaro) Duarte as well as her great-grandchildren, Mykayla, Ethan, Serenity, Alina, Jozelle, and Elize.
Ida is survived by her sister, Katie Rath; sister-in-law, Hazel Geigle; brother-in-law, Harvey Derheim, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Rosa Geigle;; her husband, Edwin Mack; sisters, Emma Ulrich and Martha Derheim; brother, Fred Geigle; brothers-in-law, Ralph Ulrich, Art Rath; son-in-law, Derry Jans, and a number of nieces and nephews.
