Howard Victor Opp passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at the age of 71 years, beloved husband of Kathleen “Anne” Opp of Medicine Hat. He also leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Darren (Tessa) Opp of Tobin Lake, Saskatchewan and their children Kaden and Kyler; Jason (Kelly) Opp of Coaldale and their children Haelen and Carter; one brother James Opp (Colleen) of Calgary; one brother-in-law Jim (Holly) Morrison and their family; his chosen brother-in-law Noel Assailey as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Martha and Richard Opp; his in-laws Art and Thelma Morrison and chosen sister-in-law Betty Chambers. Howard was born on December 17, 1945 at Empress, Alberta and was raised on the farm in the Hilda/Burstall area. He received his schooling at Hilda School and then finishing in Burstall School. Throughout his life, Howard worked for Borger Construction, Dominion Glass in Redcliff, the Department of Highways, Petro Canada Empress Gas Plant and as a field operator he retired in 2004. In 1971, he married Anne Morrison and they settled in Burstall where they raised their family. Howard was a kind and caring person with very specific ideas of how things should be done. He served on the Town Council in Burstall for many years, 25 as Mayor. He was a very hands on Mayor and believed if you wanted something done, you should be taking action and doing whatever you expected others to do. In 2008, they moved to Chinook Village in Medicine Hat and he continued his legacy of helping others and served as Chairperson on the Resident Management Committee for several years. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Monday, November 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Shane P. Andrus and Pastor Lance Duncalfe co-officiating. In lieu of flowers, an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association PO Box 26331 STN BRM B, Toronto, ON M7Y 4R1 or to the Burstall Community Hall Association (Please make cheques payable to the “Town of Burstall”) Box 121, Burstall, Saskatchewan S0N 0H0.
