Harvey Wayne Millen, beloved husband of Gail Millen, passed away peacefully from brain cancer surrounded by his family on Monday, June 4, 2018. Harv, 73 years old, leaves to celebrate his life his two daughters, Candace Millen (Jody Thornton and son Josh) and Katherine Millen Worré (Philip Worré and their two sons, Felix and Oliver). Harv is also survived by two brothers, Gordon Millen (Barbara Oakes) and Kenneth Millen (Noreen Wilcox), several nieces and nephews and was predeceased by his parents Howard and Marion Millen.
Born and raised in Medicine Hat in the Coca-Cola business, Harv inherited a strong work ethic and a love of people from his parents. He had a natural ability to be fully present and live in the moment – and in so doing – was able to connect with people, no matter how long he had known them. Described by friends as having a big heart and a big presence, Harv was a bestower of the love and grace he received from his faith in God.
Harv’s most cherished memories from his youth were the years he spent studying Commerce and Philosophy in southern California. Upon returning from California, he met his wife, Gail and they were later married in 1974. They moved to Lethbridge where they spent many wonderful years raising their daughters, working and volunteering in the community and the church. Over the years, Harv worked as a real estate broker, commodity trader and commercial property developer. An avid skier, boater and pilot in his prime, Harv’s favorite place for these activities was Flathead Lake, Montana. It is here that he fostered many meaningful relationships and spent time sharing his faith and life’s experiences with close friends.
In his later years, he enjoyed spending time outdoors in Alberta and Montana and regularly traveled to France and Luxembourg with Gail to spend time with his extended family and grandchildren. Most recently, Harv had been relishing in his role as a grandfather, father and husband, continually giving thanks for the many blessings he had and the many cherished moments they had together.
Harv will be deeply missed by friends and relatives. His hope in the last months of his life was that his loved ones would “carry on and continue to be a source of love in the world”. This mandate is a source of comfort and joy by those left to celebrate his life. Thank you, Harv for the many ways you showed up in the lives of those that knew you with a heart full of love and a soul full of wisdom. You made every moment count and we are all the richer for it.
