Harold Leroy Halvorson

Harold Leroy Halvorson of Foremost, passed away on Saturday, February 11th, 2017 in the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital at the age of 75 years. Harold leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 52 years, Marion; his children, Curtis Halvorson (Jana Roose), Byron (Lana) Halvorson, and Carla (Scott) Brigden; grandchildren, Tory O’Connor, Morgan Halvorson (Zack Weibe), Ashley Halvorson, Candace Halvorson, Trinity Brigden, Abigail Brigden, and Devonee Brigden. Harold was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on April 8th, 1941. He was the son of Katie and Hilmer Halvorson. Harold spent his school years in Nemiscam and Foremost. He worked for Jack Cowie and Waldo McFall where he developed his love of cattle and farming. On October 10th, 1964, Harold married Marion Harty of Faith, Alberta. They lived in Medicine Hat where he worked for Southern Ditching. In 1965, they moved back to Etzikom where Harold worked as a partsman for Lynn Brower at Massey Ferguson. He also had a bus route and rented the family farm from his father-in-law. In 1971, Harold purchased Saniway Septic Tank Service better known as “The Honey Wagon”. In 1972, he purchased the family farm in Faith, Alberta where he and Marion continued to raise their family and have resided for the last 45 years. Harold was actively involved in the community. He has held the position of president for Wildhorse Grazing Coop, Etzikom Museum, and S.E.A. Water Coop. He was also a director on the board of Alberta Federated Water Coops. Harold loved spending time with family and friends. His grandchildren were a large sense of pride for him. His generosity and amazing spirit will be missed by all who knew him. Harold is also survived by his brother, Lenard (Cathy) Halvorson; his in-laws, Ralph Bradley, Mark (Merelyn) Harty, Vincent (Ann) Harty, Conrad (Phyllis) Harty, Peter (Lynn) Harty, and Dorthy Head; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by his father and mother, Hilmer and Katie Halvorson; brother, Ralph (Deanna) Halvorson; sister, Bertha Bradley; sisters-in-law, Claudia Halvorson, Magdalena (Manny) Lehr, Clara (Herb) Garber; brother-in-law, Ralph Harty; father and mother-in-law, Ferdinand and Katherine Harty; as well as his infant son, Gary Michael Halvorson. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Harold’s life. Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be said at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 205 – 2nd Street West, Foremost, on Thursday, February 16th, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Foremost Community Hall, 802 – 1st Avenue West, Foremost, on Friday, February 17th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Marino Infante, celebrant. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Harold’s memory may be made to the Etzikom Museum Society, Hwy 885, Etzikom, Alberta, T0K 0W0, or to the Canadian Cancer Society, #200 – 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, Alberta, T2E 2P5.
