July 11, 1939 ~ April 19, 2017
Haiko Meint Geertsema passed away suddenly on April 19, 2017, in Medicine Hat, AB. He is survived by his loving wife, Pat (nee Van Zwol), his nephews, Jan (Annemarie) Jonker and their children, Megan and Janine of Bow Island, AB.; Hinderikus (Hester) Jonker and their daughter, Josien (Geert-Jan) of The Netherlands as well as his wife’s relatives of Ontario and The Netherlands. Haiko was predeceased by his parents, Hinderikus and Janna Geertsema; sister, Geessina Jonker and brother-in-law, Harm Jonker. Haiko was born on July 11, 1939, in Veendam, The Netherlands. He was raised on the family farm and immigrated to Canada in 1976. Haiko and Pat met in Calgary and were married in 1984. Together they started a dairy farm in Thorsby, AB. and in 1999, they moved to Medicine Hat, AB. Haiko was a devoted Christian and enjoyed studying the bible. He loved farming, gardening, raising chickens and was a hard worker. A memorial service will be held at the Christian Reformed Church, 300 Primrose Drive S.E., Medicine Hat on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor George Koopmans officiating.
