Grace Lillian Lewandoski (nee Gill) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at the age of 92 years. Grace was born and raised on the family homestead south of Irvine with her five sisters. She was educated at Irvine school before attending Alexandra High School in Medicine Hat. After high school, Grace worked in Winnipeg for Royal Bank prior to being transferred to Brooks, Alberta where she met her future husband George Lewandoski. Grace and George were married on April 12, 1958 and lived in Medicine Hat where their son Greg was born September 1, 1959. In November 1959, the family moved to their farm in Jenner, Alberta. On October 1, 1960, their second son Brent was born. Their third son Jeff was born on January 24, 1972.
In 1981, George, Grace and Jeff moved to a farm near Abbotsford, BC to be closer to her twin sister Gladys until returning to Jenner in 1986. In the early 1990’s, George and Grace bought a house and retired to Medicine Hat. After George’s passing in 1996, Grace moved into a new condo in Meadowlands where she resided for 22 years. During that time her cherished grandson Jarret was born in 2002. Grace treasured every moment she could spend with Jarret reading books and telling stories. In 2019, she moved across the street into Meadowlands Retirement Residence. She joined her sister Ruby so they could look after each other and be dining partners. Her final residence was Masterpiece Southland Meadows.
Grace leaves to cherish her memory her son Jeff (Bobbi), one grandson Jarret and numerous nieces and nephews. Grace was predeceased by her husband George, sons Greg and Brent, sisters Francis Gill, Getrude (Leonard) Straub, Ruby (Ted) Andjelic, Gladys (John) Andjelic and Harriet Gill. She was predeceased by her parents Reinhold and Eva Gill and her father and mother-in-law Jan and Valria Lewandowski, brother-in-law Edward Lewandoski, sister-in-law Mary (Christian) Helm, sister-in-law Wanda (Mike) Smolanski and numerous nieces and nephews.
Grace was an avid reader, liked to crochet, enjoyed gardening, camping and loved the farming life. Grace was at every branding at the –OL Ranch until she could no longer attend. Her boys enjoyed their mom’s cooking but her baking was the specialty of the house. She was active in the CWL for many years.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jeffrey Bradvoldt for the many years of dedicated care he provided Grace, and to the staffs at Meadowlands and Masterpiece Southland Meadows.
