A lifetime of hard work and good times ended on May 16, 2017 with the passing of Gordon William Beck, at the age of 84 years. His is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Josephine; four children, Brent (Lori) Beck, Randy (Lois) Beck, Wendy Beck and Todd (Shelley) Beck; five grandchildren, Josh (Jennifer) Beck their children Dannica, Jase, Shay; Gena (Cody) Glenn their children Gentry, Porter, Lyla; Matthew Beck (Natalie) his daughter Lily; Hayden Beck (Calee); Hillary (Chris) Hutton; one brother Harvey (Delores) Beck; one sister Joyce (Grant) Kirbyson and special niece Donna Mae (Richard) Weisgerber, as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Gordon was born on May 12, 1933 in Schuler and married Josephine Haas in 1954. He was involved in many businesses throughout the years including; farming, operating school buses, rural electrification, hardware and lumber yard, and lastly the farm implement business. Over the years Gordon was a leader in the Schuler community and a passionate volunteer serving on the executive of the Schuler Community Association, the Water Co-op, Curling Rink Board, and many other committees for over 22 years. In 1979, Gordon and Josephine moved to Medicine Hat and purchased Hat Farm Supply with Gordon’s brother and brother-in-law. The dealership enjoyed great success having been named the largest grossing dealership in North America for two consecutive years. In 1989, Gordon sold his business interest and retired for a short time period but soon got bored and started working as an adjuster for AFSC for 15 years. During this time, Gordon and Josephine travelled south to Yuma, Arizona for over 17 winter seasons. This was some of the most enjoyable carefree time in his life. After retiring from AFSC, Gordon returned to the family farm to work with his son Brent and grandson Josh. He was passionate about passing his skills and knowledge to the next generation. Family was always very important to Gordon–especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. The purchase of the cabin at Elkwater and the times spent at the farm allowed many fun times for all to learn and enjoy. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. David Pollard officiating. A private interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
